Hi Guys and Girls,
With your parents, sit down and watch your Inquiry Proposal.
Comment below the following things:
-How did your parents react?
-What questions did they have and how did you answer them?
-Did your parents have any ideas that may help you with your inquiry?
-What did your parents say about your delivery? Did they give you any feedback?
My mum thought the whole thing was kinda crazy but very cool at first. I started to explain it to her and she gave me some feedback on our slideshow content and she thought that I spoke very clearly.
ReplyDeleteBy Finn
Are you able to tell us what the feedback was?
DeleteMy Mum really liked the questions we asked, she thought that they showed we had thought about the topic quite broadly, she also thought our slide show was really good because it was well laid out and clear.
ReplyDeleteHere are some questions she asked:
-Will the animals be harmed by the chemicals put in the tree's?
-Which country would this happen in?
Nina
-
Do you have any initial thoughts on these questions?

ReplyDeleteMy dad Liked the way we presented ours,He asked some questions like does this product have a phone app I said yes it does and it has most of the features that the collar has in it.He also asked where we would sell our products I said online because the future will all be on electronics.
ReplyDeleteDad said we need to work on
looking at the camera more.
Speak more clearly.
Not to giggle as much
Awesome well done!
DeleteMy mom said the overall the presentation is not bad. She did ask me where do we get the information and I told her that we had a group discussion with Mr Price. Mom said the slideshow was well laid out. She suggested that we could have written the main points on a small piece of paper and then explain to the whole class so that there are eye contact with people instead of keep turning back and read from the screen.
ReplyDeleteMy mother said to stop looking back towards the screen and look in front because that's where the listeners are! She said writing cue cards would've helped. Mom also told me that we could have given our topic a bit more introducing. Plus, we needed a bit more confidence - My mother told me that my voice was clear, but I was fidgeting too much. Also, to stop giggling. We cracked up as soon as the camera stopped recording!
ReplyDeleteAs for questions, Mom has two.
1) What are the negative effects of obesity? (Something we are looking into)
and 2) What can we do to prevent it in the first place? (Something to research)
:)
My parents said it was a good idea, and they like the way we have a matching pair with a boy and a girl robot. My Dad said "It's a clever idea that they can give the time or directions to people as well".
ReplyDeleteThey didn't have any questions
Dad suggested we should do some research on how the robots will be powered. Maybe solar power or batteries.
About the delivery Mum thought that I spoke clearly
Dad said it is important for everyone to look up and speck clearly and slowly enough that they can be clearly understood.
My dad thinks that it is a good idea for our generation to learn more from technical resources
ReplyDeletebecause everything is changing so fast that the old days are gone past, where you had to read thousands of pages. But, however technology can not take over textbooks the reason to this is because if don’t write anything it will be hard for you to remember. If you see technology in a positive way children can gain more knowledge from technology the reason to this is internet everything you need is on internet which makes it easier. He also said that I need to talk more louder and clearly and look up and talk.
Feedback/What to work on.
ReplyDeleteInteraction with crowd.
Summarising instead of reading of tablet or just knowing what to say.
Confidence.
Not loud enough.
Getting your purpose really across.
Asking the audience questions.
Eyes on the crowd.
What they liked.
It’s a good concept but modern technology still has long way to go.
It was clear.
This was all my Mum’s feedback she also said it’s a good topic and it’s a innovative project about what we will have in the future. But we still have a long way to go until we have it ready.
I have to:
ReplyDeleteSpeak a bit clearer
Speak a touch slower
Look up a bit
Practice words
Over all she liked it and thought that
is was a good project to do.
Other wise she didn't say much more.
-How did your parents react?
ReplyDeleteMum thinks it’s an interesting idea, to try and protect wildlife from deforestation.Mum thought it was a well thought out presentation, particularly our own questions about GE. She like the fact you want to do something positive to save animals.
Dad thought it was an interesting topic and it was well presented
-What questions did they have and how did you answer them?
Mum said trees live for decades it seems a shame not to let animals, whose lifespan is shorter, use the trees for food and shelter while the trees are growing.
But I said but there will be generations of wildlife living in these trees and at some point you would have to take it away from them.
Her biggest question was, where would you plant these trees that isn’t already being used for something else? I answered hopefully there is a space that is just a field that doesn’t have any plants in it so we don’t have to chop down anything or maybe we could ask if we could buy some land off a farmer?
How expensive is a GE product to make, and how long does it take?
Dad asked was your GE presentation limited to New Zealand only or was it worldwide? I answered: I think we were thinking about New Zealand but it would be great if it was worldwide.
Dad also asked, why did you choose this topic? Well when we were choosing a topic for this inquiry we found that we were all very interested in helping/raising awareness for animal deforestation.
-Did your parents have any ideas that may help you with your inquiry?
Mum and dad suggested we research projects that have used GE to learn about the risks and the benefits. For example, how do GE products reproduce (Seedless watermelon?)
-What did your parents say about your delivery? Did they give you any feedback?
Mum thought that when we were reading the questions out we passed the Ipad between us too much and that was distracting.
The delivery was good and clear, if a little quiet in parts. Good eye contact with the audience.
Dad thinks that we should of put bullet points on the slideshow rather than a bunch of information so it is easier for people to read on the screen.
-Dad thought that it was a interesting topic,Dad didn't know what the need was for hoverers
ReplyDelete-What fuel will they run on?Maybe hydroin.
How much will the cost run and to get?Didn't answers.
How environmentally friendly would they be?More environmentally friendly then normal cars.
What will be there top speed? We don't know
how will they be manoeuvred? don't know.
What terrain will they go over? All terrain that a normal car can cover.
-Maybe look at US military, they use hover cars.
-dad thought that my speaking was okay but he thinks that we should the grammar of our slide.
My mum had never heard of floating houses, she thinks it's a really cool topic but wonders what would happen if someone fell out of a window. I think that falling out of a window would be one of the safety aspects that people would have to consider. Mum asked for more information about how you get up to the front door. I explained the vacuum taking you to the front porch.
ReplyDeletemum thought this was a cool inquiry for me, especially because I am interested in being an architect.
Mum said that she liked the way I looked up while I was speaking. She thought i was speaking clearly.
my mum also thinks the magnet would have to be quite strong in case there was an earthquake and the magnet shifted.
Both of my parents said it was a good idea and an interesting topic. They didn't really have any questions, just how we were going to go about researching it and I explained about the different things that could change, and how we watched the videos in Ms Lintotts class which were like what we would be getting our information about the technological side of things.
ReplyDeleteMy dad said that we could have maybe structured the slideshow a bit differently, and gave me ideas that he got from work, like the order the slides could be put in.
As for my delivery, they both said it was good, I spoke clearly and that it was good i faced forward, but I should speak a little bit slower and and have more eye contact with the audience.
My mum and dad said i should try and make a bigger slideshow and stop looking down too much. You spoke nice loud and had a bit of eye contact, spoke at the right speed.
ReplyDeleteQuestions
Why is your topic about future buildings?
How are they going to float?
How do movable walls work?
Are touch screen windows already invented?
I think that Ryan and Jack have done a alright presentation for the time given and last year Ryan was scared to get up in front of the class and talk.A big achievement for him.
My mum said I should memorise the main points or get queue cards to read of. She also said I needed to speak more clearly so that the audience could hear what I was saying.
ReplyDeleteMy dad said it was great to see that we had obviously done some research on the topic with some good ideas as well. Talking louder and clearer would be beneficial for all, and to look up when speaking to engage the audience.

How did your parents react?
ReplyDelete-My mum said it was a well thought topic.
-A unique idea.
What questions did your parent have, and how did I answer them?
-Q:What types of trees will you GE?
A:we are planning on GE a Palm oil tree, to get palm oil. and also a redwood tree, which is the tallest tree in the world so we will get a lot of wood.
-Q: My mum also asked; a lot of people don't like the Idea of GE how are you going to change there minds?
A: tell them the good things about ge, like it helps grow better plants.
-Q: Where will the animals go if the cant live in these trees?
A:there is plenty more bush or jungle around the world.
-Q: Will I be able to burn these trees as fire wood?
A: the scientists will test these trees to see if they do burn. and if they don't they can ge them so they do.
Did your parents have any feedback on your presentation?
-my mum said it was well presented
-the slides were very clear
-and enjoyed the way everyone took turns speaking.
Me and my dad have talked about this before but we came up with some questions that really confused is such as if u had a magnet suit on for the wireless bungee jump when I jumped when would you flip Over and stick to the magnets.over all he thought it was a cool idea.
ReplyDeleteMe and my mum watched the video and this is my feedback and what i did well
ReplyDeleteFeedback:
My mum said that it was a good idea but we need to figure out if it was safe and if people would actually like to do our not .
What I did well:
We said that i spoke well and it was a cool idea.
here is my mums feedback:I think Oliver’s presentation is very interesting. It shows a real concern for the future of our planet and poses some very good questions.
ReplyDeleteI would like to know a little more about the evolution of the humpback whale.
Also how are humans evolving at the moment?
Te Papa would be a good place to visit to find out some more information about climate change. Also the MET service may have somebody who would be able to answer some questions.
Regarding presentation, Very clear speaking voice. Maybe speaking a tiny bit slower would give people more time to absorb what you are saying. Also the more you have memorised the more you can look up at people whilst you are speaking. This helps to keep people engaged.
So interesting sharing!
