ReplyDeleteMy personal favorite was swan lake because they put it together very well despite all the dancers doing the little twichy movements (whitch I imagine would be quite hard)and the dance was overall beutiful I thought.
ReplyDelete1.Prince Seigfrieds mother wants him to get married but the girl he loves loves his best friend instead, so he runs off and goes hunting. He finds a flock of swans and is about to shoot when they land and transform into girls. When Odette, queen of the swans transforms, he falls in love with her. She explains that she was transformed into a swan by an evil swamp monster and can only be turned back if she is promised love. Later that night Prince Seigfried has a ball and the swamp monster desguises his daughter as Odette, but he doesnt realise until he promises his love to the swamp monsters daughter, causing the real Odette to be trapped forever. He goes to the lake and apoligizes but shes still trapped so they decide to die together so they can never be seperated. They do this by jumping off a rock from whitch they are silhouetted in the moon as they fall
2. Plotless ballets have no storyline and utilize the movement of the body and theatrical elements to interpret music, create an image or to express or provoke emotion. Classical ballets are characterized by graceful, flowing movements, classical form: turn-out of the legs and pointe work, balance and symmetry, ethereal, emphasis on story ballets and narrative and elaborate sets and costumes. Neo-Classical ballets generally include increased speed, energy and attack, manipulation of the classical form, asymmetry; an off-balance feel, non-narrative; often one-act ballets and paired down aesthetic—simple sets and costumes Finally, Contemporary ballet is influenced by modern dance. For example, you may see floor work, turn-IN of the legs, greater range of movement and body line and pointe shoes but also bare feet

ReplyDeleteSwan Lake
ReplyDeleteI liked it because you could tell that there was a story with emotions, conflict and resolutions even though they aren't speaking at all and presenting it all through a form of dance.
1) When Prince Siegfried turns 21, his mom tells him that he has to marry somebody soon. He refuses because he hasn't found a woman he loves, yet. To finish the birthday celebrations, he and Benno go hunting, a hobby of his, with some friends. Then, everything takes a strange twist and they end up DEEP in the forest. Siegfried was about to shoot a beautiful swan wearing a crown, when it suddenly turned into the most stunning lady he’d ever seen. Her name was Princess Odette, Queen of the Swans. Siegfried is immediately smitten with her. She told him her story about being cursed by Von Rothbart. He decides to make it his mission to save her and marry her. Siegfried invites her to the ball and swears to choose her as his bride. Things take a turn for the worse (and perfectly dark) all too soon. On the night of the ball, the prince thinks only of the Swan Queen as he rejects marriage offers. When he finally sees her, he is very happy. He is unknowing to the fact that it is actually Odile, Von Rothbart’s daughter, pretending to be Odette. Siegfried falls for it and pledges his never-ending love and all is done and gone. He follows Odette back to the lake to beg for her forgiveness. She forgives him, but tells him that she has to die to be free of Rothbart’s curse. Not wanting to live without the Swan Queen, both of them jump into the lake so they can reunite in the Pond In The Sky.
2)
a) Romantic, Classical, Neoclassical and Contemporary
b) In Romantic, all the woman dance like dainty little flowers swaying in the wind (first example that came into mind). They also have long tutus that look like dresses for a ball. Classical are performed with classical music and use bold staging and costumes, whereas Neoclassical is quite the opposite, with simple leotards and tights without any scenery. Contemporary is modernising moves and techniques, especially the Classical ones, and incorporating other forms of dance. It allows a lot of experimentation.
Lord Of The Dance
ReplyDeleteI really love the move of the dance it was cool and I love the inspiration in their face it really hook me in its like something big and cool is going to happend in their show.
1.The story is about a war between good and bad. The dark lord "Don Dorcha" was planning to take Over the planet "Ireland", but the "Lord Of The Dance" deafeat him with a help from a little spirit that travel trough time.

ReplyDeleteIt was awesome! it must have taken so long to get right! I liked it because it was so energetic and fun and funky also I liked it because you could see the smiles on the dancers face that means that they were having some fun as well.
1.It is about a classic story of good vs evil, there is a evil dark lord called "Don Dorcha" who wants to take over Ireland and then there is “the lord of the dance” and with a bit of help from a spirit defeats "Don Dorcha" and every one lives happily ever after.
2.Michael flatley became famous when he performed a night to remember,Celtic tiger, feet of flames and of course lord of the dance.
Andre Rieue
ReplyDeleteWhat was amazing grace about?
Amazing grace is about God and his son Jesus protecting us through everything even if we haven't been the best to everybody, forgiving your mistakes and giving you his blessing. I chose this one because I go to church and pray to him for these exact same reasons, and even if I've been horrible to someone he gives me thee courage to apologize and he's there for me when no one else is, that is what i think it's about.
How was Andre Rieu famous.
André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. Together they have turned classical and waltz music into a worldwide concert touring act, as successful as some of the biggest global pop and rock music acts. For his work, Rieu has been awarded such honours as the Order of the Netherlands Lion by the Netherlands, the Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France, and the Honorary Medal by his native Province of Limburg.
But my favourite will be this because it reinds me of myself and getting through problems i couldn't solve through the power of God.
Michael flatley's lord of dance.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this because it was really funky and quick,It got me tapping along as well;).
You could really see that the had practised for hours because their moves were inch perfect. You could see that they loved what they were doing because everyone of the dancers faces had a great big grin on it, and That makes it really fun to watch.
1.The story of the dance is about a evil dark lord “Don Dorcha”.She wants to take over “planet” Ireland. The lord of dance defeats the dark lord with some help from a spirit .There is also a story with a "love vs lust" theme expressed through dance throughout the show. "Saoirse, the Irish Cailín" fights for the love of the "Lord of the Dance" against the wicked "Morrighan, the Temptress".The stories are based on an ancient Irish folklore.A folklore is the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by word of mouth.
2.Michael Flatley first stepped onto the world stage when he toured with The Chieftains. In 1994 he changed the face of Irish dance forever with his breath-taking creation of Riverdance. He went on to
create the Lord of the Dance which debuted at the Point Theatre in Dublin in 1996.His name and Lord of the Dance brand have become synonymous with spectacular artistry and grand scale productions that have mesmerized audiences around the globe.Michael broke the mould of traditional Irish dancing by incorporating upper body movement and creating edgy rhythm patterns that departed from the traditional. He has created, directed and produced several successful shows including Lord of the Dance, Feet of Flames and Celtic Tiger.

Swan Lake.
ReplyDeleteI chose Swan Lake because I thought it was a really great and magical performance. I loved how in time and practised it was.
1. What is the story of Swan Lake?
Swan lake is about two girls, Odette and Odile, they look nearly exactly the same.
Odette is under a spell of an evil magician she tells the prince that by day she is a swan and by night she is a human. Her and the prince are in love. That day there was a wedding Odile came forward with her father. The prince thinks it is Odette. Very soon the window flies open and Odette stands there with a crown on her head. All the Girls gather round the lake. He explains to Odette that it was Von Rothbart that did this to him and Odette forgives him.
Von Rothbart comes to them and forces the prince to mary his daughter Odile or the prince and Odette will die. The prince refuse and they die in each others arms.
2. What are the main four styles of ballet? What are the differences?
Classical, Contemporary, neoclassical ballet, Romantic ballet.
Classical is a very up beat whilst still graceful and smooth it usually has a story to it.
Contemporary is quite flowing and has a lot of floor work involved.
Neoclassical ballet has a lot of energy and is mostly used in fight scenes it has quite an off-balance feel to it.
Romantic ballet is Romatic and is used in kissing scenes or the scenes where they find their 'true love'.
Nina
Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman, Time to Say Goodbye
ReplyDeleteI liked this because of the obvious time, effort and passion put into what turned out to be a really heartwarming performance. I really liked the obvious practise that both of them put into perfecting their singing voices and it was really cool how they both sung together at the end to create two different sort of notes for a flourishing finish.
What are the lyrics of Time to Say Goodbye about?
Like a lot of songs, the meaning is a bit blurry because of the description, similes, metaphors and personification but I think the meaning is something like this:
When you are with me there will always be light even in a room where there is no light. You are always with me so there is always light. When you go away I want to follow you but I cannot because it is impossible to travel on boats that don’t exist.
What are the types of voices a classical singer can have? What are the differences?
In voice classification the voices are split into male and female.
Male: The countertenor is the highest male voice. Many countertenor singers perform roles originally written for a castrato1* in baroque operas2*.
The tenor is the second highest male voice. The typical tenor voice lies between C3 to C5. The low extreme for tenors is roughly B♭2. At the highest extreme, some tenors can sing up to F5.
The vocal range of the baritone lies between the bass and tenor ranges, overlapping both of them. The typical baritone range is from A2 to A4. A baritone's range might extend down to F2 or up to C5. The baritone is the most common type of male voice.
The bass is the lowest male voice. The bass voice has the lowest tessitura of all the voices. The typical bass range lies between E2 to E4.
Female:
The soprano is the highest singing voice. The typical soprano voice lies between C4 and C6. The low extreme for sopranos is roughly A3. Most soprano roles do not extend above C6 although there are several standard soprano roles that call for D6.
The mezzo-soprano is the middle-range voice type for females. The mezzo-soprano voice lies between the soprano voice and contralto voice, over-lapping both of them. The typical range of this voice is between A3 to A5.
The contralto voice is the lowest female voice. A true operatic contralto is rare, so much that often roles intended for contraltos are performed by mezzo-sopranos. The typical contralto range lies between F3 to F5.
1* A female singing voice
2* A type of opera that mixes a wide range of comedy with tragic moments.
Note: All terms like A5 etc are piano notes and are just used to specify the exact pitch of the voice type in question.
Swan Lake
ReplyDeleteI chose Swan Lake because before this I've seen clips of the ballet and I thought it was really good. I liked how they were able to tell the story through dancing, and I also really liked Tchaikovsky's music.
1. What is the story of Swan Lake?
Swan Lake is about a man called Prince Siegfried, who on his 21st birthday arrives back to his palace home to birthday celebrations. During the event, his mother hands him a crossbow and tells him that because he is now of age, he must pick someone to marry, but he doesn’t want to marry anyone so he goes off into the woods to go hunting with some friends. While they are in the forest, Prince Seigfried finds a pond, and in the pond, a beautiful swan wearing a crown. Just as he was about to shoot the swan, it transformed into the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen, and he was instantly in love with her. Her name was Princess Odette, Queen of the Swans. She explained to him that she and her handmaidens were cursed by an evil sorcerer called Von Rothbart, to be swans by day and only be seen as humans by night. She also said that the only way for the curse to be broken was if someone pledged their love to her. When his mother told him her had to pick someone he didn’t want to but then he saw Von Rothbarts daughter Odile, who he thought was Odette as they were identical. He pledged his love for her but realised too late that it wasn’t Odette. Odette told him that the only way for them to be together now was to die together so they did.
2. What are the main four styles of ballet? What are the differences?
There is Classical, Neo-Classical, Contemporary and Romantic.
Classical ballet is a traditional and formal style of ballet. It's known for its rigorous techniques such as pointe work and high extensions, and its flowing, precise movements. Neo-classical ballet is kind of the same as classical, but there usually isn't any clear plot, costumes or scenery. Contemporary ballet is a form of ballet that can be influenced by other styles like jazz and modern techniques. Romantic ballet emphasizes intense emotion, and the plot often revolves around women who capture hearts of men.

Michael Flatley Lord of the Dance
ReplyDeleteMichael Flatley was born in Chicago, Illinois; on the 16th of July 1958. He is now 57 and is still performing for people around the globe for their entertainment (and their money). He has now been dancing for more than 25 years.
Michael Flatley is a dancer, a musician and a choreographer. He is well-known and a professional Irish tap dancer. Some of his most famous shows are Lord of the Dance, RiverDance, Feet of Flames, Warlords and the Celtic Tiger. This is how he became so famous (answering question 2).

The Lord of the Dance is a story about a war and a good vs bad theme. The leader of the bad side, also known as the Dark Lord, 'Don Darcha'. The Dark Lord tried to take over Ireland but he didn't have much success due to the fact that Ireland had help from the spirit. Ireland defeated Don Darcha and all his men and won the battle (answering question 1).
Here is some extra research I did about Michael Flatley, information I thought was interesting.
In 1998, when he was 39, Michael got his first Guinness World Record, for the fastest Tap Dancing. He did 28 taps per second set in 1989 with an impressive 35 taps per second. He has been recognized by many people around the world and received dozens of awards for his entertainment and the enrichment of Ireland, Irish dance and music. His support of many causes over the last 20 years has encouraged hundreds of thousands of people to do what his motto says to do. “Nothing is impossible…follow your dreams”. Michael’s final performance was at Caesar’s Colosseum in Las Vegas, the 17th March 2016.
